Create a Template

This guide covers the Rich Text editor, the default option for a template’s message content and the only one that works for both email and SMS. For a visual, block-based layout, see Build with the Email Builder instead.

  1. Go to Messages and open the Templates tab.
  2. Click New.
  3. Enter a Name for the template. This is for your own reference — members never see it.
  4. Leave Message set to Rich Text (this is the default).
  5. Enter a Subject. This is only used when the template is sent by email; it’s ignored for SMS.
  6. Write the body of the message in the content editor.
  7. Click Create.

The name must be unique across your school’s templates, and both the subject and content need at least some text before you can save.

The content editor supports headings, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, bulleted and numbered lists, block quotes, and links. These all work in an email. Formatting is stripped when the same content is sent as SMS, since text messages are plain text.

  1. Open the Templates tab.
  2. Select the template from the list.
  3. Make your changes and click Save, or click delete to remove it.

Deleting a template doesn’t affect messages already sent using it. Editing one only affects future messages sent from it. It never changes something you already sent.
