Send a Broadcast
A broadcast sends the same message to many members at once, unlike a conversation, which is a one-to-one thread. Use a broadcast for announcements, reminders, and newsletters where you don’t need individual replies threaded back to you.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Broadcasts are either Email or SMS, not both in the same send. If you want to reach members by both, send two broadcasts.
- SMS requires a phone number set up under Settings → Branding → Phone Number.
- If you’re using the Email Builder for the content, the broadcast must be Email. Email Builder content can’t be sent as SMS.
Send a broadcast
Section titled “Send a broadcast”- Go to Messages and click Compose.
- Switch the recipient mode from Individual to Broadcast.
- Choose Email or SMS for this broadcast.
- Search the To box and add one or more programs and/or groups to target. See “Choose who to target” below for what each option includes.
- Click Templates to start from a saved template, or write the message from scratch.
- Enter a Subject if you’re sending by email.
- Write your message in the content editor.
- Optionally, set a date and time to send the broadcast later instead of right away.
- Click Send (or Schedule, if you set a send time).
Kanri shows a progress modal while the broadcast goes out, since sending to a large number of members happens in the background rather than all at once. You can dismiss it and keep working; click View details to jump straight to the broadcast’s entry in the Outbox.
Choose who to target
Section titled “Choose who to target”You can combine any number of these in a single broadcast:
- A program — every member with an active membership in that program.
- A group — every member in that group, whether they were added directly or through a program assignment (with any level range the group specifies).
- All members — every active member at your school.
- Lead programs (requires Lead Management) — every lead whose enquiry lists that program.
Broadcasting to a custom filter
Section titled “Broadcasting to a custom filter”If programs and groups aren’t specific enough, click Broadcast by filter… in the To box instead. This replaces the program/group search with a filter builder, the same one used for custom reports, so you can target members by any combination of fields, such as membership status, level, or last attendance date. A filter is evaluated at send time and can’t be combined with programs, groups, or lead programs in the same broadcast.
Placeholders still work
Section titled “Placeholders still work”Broadcasts support the same placeholders as a one-to-one message, like the recipient’s first name. Because every broadcast recipient is a real member, there’s no risk of an unresolved placeholder. See Message Placeholders for the full list.
Where broadcasts show up afterward
Section titled “Where broadcasts show up afterward”Every broadcast you send appears in the Outbox tab, under the Broadcasts view, with its overall progress and a per-recipient delivery status. See The Outbox for details.
