A Payment Failed — What Do I Do?

  • Step 1: Find out about the failure (email notification, Failing Subscriptions report)
  • Step 2: Check the failure reason (expired card, insufficient funds, card blocked)
  • Step 3: Contact the member and ask them to update their payment method
  • Step 4: How to add a new payment method from the member’s profile
  • Step 5: Retry the payment manually after the new card is added
  • Step 6: If payment still fails — check with the member, consider temporarily suspending their membership
  • Stripe’s automatic retry schedule (Stripe retries for you — how many times and when)
  • When the subscription is automatically cancelled by Stripe after too many failures
